As the calendar turns to the new year, you’ll be spending more and more time in your new sunroom with the holiday season. - Crafts and hobbies – the big windows give you an incredible amount of natural which makes your sunroom an ideal space to practice your favourite crafts and hobbies. Activities that require a bit more space such as painting, jigsaw puzzles or scrapbooking are ideal for your sunroom as you can spread out as much as you want without taking up space in the rest of the home. This could also inspire you to take up a new craft or hobby as another one of your New Year’s resolutions.
- Game night – your sunroom is the perfect entertaining space for a game night, either with your kids or adult friends. You can easily fit an eight person table in most 12 x 12 sunrooms which will give you enough space for a game of cards or even the more intricate board games. The sound of laughter and fun will only encourage you to recreate the experience and spend more time in the sunroom.
- A private spa – if what you really want to use your sunroom for is a quiet haven to relax in, then turning it into your very own private spa room, even just for a day, will give you that feeling of luxury. All you need is a couple of friends, some soft robes, facial packs and a bottle of something bubbly to get going. - A family space – you’re more likely to spend more time in your sunroom this year if your whole family is there. - Upgrade the upholstery – simple changes to the upholstery in the room, such as a new set of curtains or recovering the sofa, will not only make your room feel brand new, but will also give you the opportunity to change the color scheme of the room. You can of course go further and paint or wallpaper the walls to add the final touches, but a simple upholstery switch can dramatically change the vibe of your sunroom. Changing to thick velvet drapes from lace curtains will suddenly make your sunroom feel smaller and more intimate, while recovering the furniture in a bright color from a dull one will make the room seem bigger and more open.
- Switch the soft furnishings – a smaller, and cheaper, version of changing the curtains and coverings is to buy in new soft furnishings such as throw pillows and blankets. You could even go one step further and buy seasonal and holiday sets so that your room matches the outside world all year long, and you get a constant feeling of refreshment with each change in the seasons.
- Parade the pictures – the large windows in your sunroom means that picture hanging space is often at a premium, but you can still use this wall space to freshen up your sunroom. For example, you could buy a smaller set of picture frames and rotate these through every few months, or simply swap your larger pictures and paintings with those hung in other locations throughout your home. A bigger task will be to have a piece specifically commissioned to match the room and the landscape outside.
None of these ideas will take much effort to put into place and should be easily attainable whatever your size of budget. Your sunroom resolution to utilize the room more frequently will be easily checked off and you’ll constantly feel like you have a new room in your home to use. Now if only your other New Year’s resolutions were that easy to keep!
